A 200-hour training unlike any other — where ancient yoga wisdom and the modern science that validates it converge, restoring yoga to its rightful place as a true, medically validated healing modality.
Our latest training was a profound success — a full cohort graduated as certified teachers of the Japa Method.
Dates for the next training will be planned and announced soon. Join the interest list to be the first to know.

Our most recent cohort moved through ten weeks of philosophy, anatomy, and leadership together — and the transformations inside that container were remarkable. This work draws people from every walk of life, united by the willingness to look inward and lead with integrity.
“Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind.”
Yoga Sutra 1.2 · Yogas chitta vritti nirodhahThis training transmits the distilled wisdom of twenty years of study, practice, and teaching — now crystallized as the Japa Yoga Method. It is for those with the courage to look inward, live from the heart, and lead with integrity. What waits on the other side of the work is strength, coherence, and meaningful transformation, both on and off the mat.
Most yoga is still taught through the lens of fitness. The Japa Method teaches through the lens of state — how a practice changes the nervous system, the breath, and perception itself.
Postures become tools. Breath becomes intentional. Awareness becomes medicine.
This is not a weekend certificate. The ten weekends build progressively, and graduation requires passing comprehensive written examinations in anatomy and philosophy alongside a live teaching assessment.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali studied in depth — all 196 aphorisms, the eight limbs, the yamas and niyamas, and the practice of Sankalpa as intentional living. History and lineage from the Vedas through modern yoga.
A joint-by-joint journey through the body — feet, knees, hips, spine, shoulders, and arms — grounded in biomechanics, safe load progression, and joint integrity, with dedicated anatomy workshops.
You teach from day one. Japa has its own methodology for holding space, sequencing intelligently, and using language — and you practice it from the very first weekend, so you graduate fully empowered to lead a room, not just to pass a test.
This is one of the only teacher trainings that transmits not just ancient yoga wisdom, but the modern science that validates it as a genuine healing modality. The curriculum is reviewed and validated by the Japa Health medical team — an MD- and PhD-led group — so what you teach is grounded in nervous-system regulation, polyvagal theory, psychoneuroimmunology, circadian and mitochondrial biology, and heart-brain coherence.
Each weekend marries a philosophical principle with an anatomical region — so the movement you practice on Saturday and Sunday embodies exactly what you studied that week. The ten weekends are deliberately progressive, building real, embodied depth in biomechanics, classical yoga philosophy, and leadership week over week. Nothing is taught in isolation.
What is yoga, its history and lineage, the eight limbs, holding space, and the nature of consciousness — plus teaching basics from the very first day.
The neuroscience of language, masterful cueing, the vagus nerve, fascia as a sensory organ, proprioception, and the breath — the foundations of safety.
Skeletal alignment, pranayama and alternate-nostril breath, the lymphatic system, joint types, and a dedicated anatomy workshop.
The pelvis, hip musculature and patterns of protection, pelvic floor and core integration, a kleshas deep-dive, and giving and receiving feedback.
The SI joint, core muscles, bandhas, types of stretching, and the craft of sequencing to a peak — building a class as an arc for the nervous system.
Spinal anatomy and alignment, twists, the shoulder girdle, refinement cueing, and drishti and meditation — with twists and shoulders workshops.
Arms, elbows and hands, arm balances and teaching inversions, hands-on adjustments, and risk management — with inversion and hands-on assist workshops.
Heart intelligence and energetic communication, teaching for injuries and pregnancy, how yoga heals, and yin yoga — with backbends and yin workshops.
Real-world teaching tips, the use of music, dharma and karma, and living yoga after graduation — anchored by a culminating deep-dive philosophy lecture.
Comprehensive final written examinations, live teaching demonstrations, and a graduation ceremony and closing circle.
Alongside the ten-weekend arc, the training includes a full set of specialized intensives — the dimensions most programs skip entirely. You leave with range, confidence, and a real teaching life ahead of you.
This is not a training where you watch and wait. You step in and lead from day one, again and again, with feedback every step of the way — so by graduation you are fully empowered to hold a room, not merely qualified on paper.
Our own process for holding space, intelligent sequencing, and the use of language — the through-line that leaves a room genuinely transformed.
Training in the subtle body, yin practice, and the fascial web — the quieter, deeper layers where so much of the work actually happens.
Learn to offer assists with confidence and consent, so touch becomes a language of safety and support rather than something you avoid.
A dedicated workshop on going upside down with intelligence, courage, and sound mechanics — for you and for the students you'll guide.
How to build an actual teaching life — the practical, career-shaping skills most trainings leave out entirely.
A culminating philosophical immersion at the close of the program that ties the entire journey together into a coherent whole.
The Japa Method was created by Sheryl Utal, who founded Red Diamond Yoga in Los Angeles in 2013, grew it to serve more than 40,000 students, and sold it in 2018. Japa is the next evolution of that journey — everything learned through years of teaching, training teachers, healing, and building community.
Trained through the lineage of Maty Ezraty and YogaWorks — carrying forward the alignment intelligence of B.K.S. Iyengar and the breath-movement discipline of K. Pattabhi Jois.
Shaped by teachers like Annie Carpenter and Liz Arch: stability before flexibility, strength before expression, integration before intensity.
Years of study in nervous-system regulation, trauma physiology, quantum biology, and heart-brain coherence — the layer that makes this method singular.
Hear directly from the graduates who walked this path — in their words, and in their own voices.
Graduates are recognized as certified teachers of the Japa Method. We have deliberately chosen not to register with Yoga Alliance — we see no meaningful value in external registration as a measure of teaching competency or embodied mastery.
Instead, our program is built to exceed commonly recognized minimum-hour requirements, with rigor, integration, mentorship, and lived practice as the true foundation of skilled teaching.
Every graduate receives an official Japa Method diploma.
Spaces in the Japa Method training are intentionally limited so every teacher receives real mentorship. Join the interest list and you'll be the first to know when dates, details, and enrollment open.
